Symptom

Period Pain (Dysmenorrhea)

Also called: mahawari dard · dysmenorrhea · menstrual cramps

Mahawari ka dard (dysmenorrhea) affects most women at some point. Most cases respond to NSAIDs (Ponstan or Brufen), heat, and rest. Severe pain that worsens over time, or doesn't respond to standard medicines, may indicate endometriosis or fibroids and should be evaluated.

When to see a doctor — red flags

  • Pain that does not respond to standard NSAIDs
  • Pain that worsens significantly month-to-month
  • Heavy bleeding requiring change of pad/tampon every 1–2 hours
  • Pain with fever (possible PID)
  • Pain interfering with daily activities or school/work
