Primary Uses (Mukhya Istemal)
- Osteoporosis treatment — treatment of bone weakness in post-menopausal women
- Glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis — treatment when bones weaken due to steroids
- Osteoporosis prevention — in high-risk patients
- Paget's disease of bone
Who Should Take It (Kin logon ke liye)
- Post-menopausal women who have osteoporosis or are at high fracture risk
- People who have been on steroids (glucocorticoids) for a long time
- Men affected by osteoporosis
- Patients with Paget's disease
When NOT to Use Fosamax (Kab nahi leni chahiye)
- Allergy to alendronate or bisphosphonates
- Food pipe (oesophageal) problems or inability to remain upright for 30 minutes
- Severe kidney disease (CrCl <35 mL/min)
- Hypocalcaemia (low calcium) — treat this first
