Amikacin Injection Side Effects (Nuksanat)
HIGH RISK NOTICE: Amikacin Injection can cause serious, potentially irreversible kidney damage (nephrotoxicity) and hearing loss (ototoxicity). Therapeutic drug monitoring and regular kidney function testing are required throughout treatment. This medicine is for hospital use only.
Amikacin Injection (Amikacin Sulfate) can cause side effects that require close monitoring under medical supervision.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Pain or discomfort at injection site
- Nausea
- Fever
These side effects are usually manageable. Alert your medical team if they are severe or persistent.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat)
- Nephrotoxicity (kidney damage: reduced urine output, elevated creatinine) — alert medical team immediately
- Ototoxicity (hearing loss, tinnitus, balance disturbance — can be irreversible) — alert medical team immediately
- Neuromuscular blockade (muscle weakness, respiratory depression) — alert medical team immediately
When to See a Doctor (Kab Doctor Se Milna Zaroori Hai)
- Ringing in ears (tinnitus), hearing loss, or balance disturbance — signs of ototoxicity
- Reduced urine output, dark urine, or swelling in legs — signs of nephrotoxicity
- Muscle weakness or difficulty breathing — signs of neuromuscular blockade
- Signs of severe allergic reaction: rash, swelling, difficulty breathing
Warnings and Precautions (Ihtiyat)
- Do not use Amikacin Injection if you are allergic to amikacin sulfate or other aminoglycosides
- Avoid concurrent use with loop diuretics or other nephrotoxic agents
- Adequate patient hydration reduces the risk of kidney damage
