Flucloxacillin Capsule Side Effects (Nuksanat)
Flucloxacillin (Floxapen / Fluclox) is well-tolerated in most patients when taken at the correct dose on an empty stomach. However, it is important to be aware of the risk of cholestatic hepatitis.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Nausea, vomiting (matli, ulti)
- Diarrhea (dast)
- Abdominal pain
- Urticaria / rash (charm pashi, daaney)
- Oral / vaginal candidiasis (fungal overgrowth)
These side effects are usually mild. If they continue, inform your doctor.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat) — Zaroori Maloomat
Cholestatic Hepatitis — Sabse Zaroori Warning
- Rare but characteristic — documented side effect of flucloxacillin
- Symptoms: Jaundice, dark urine, pale (light) stools, pruritus (itching)
- Timing: Can occur during treatment or up to 6 weeks after stopping
- Risk factors: Elderly, females, high dose, prolonged course
- Action: STOP THE MEDICINE IMMEDIATELY and see a doctor
- Generally reversible — but can be serious; delays are dangerous
Anaphylaxis (Severe Penicillin Allergy)
- Throat swelling, breathing difficulty, severe rash — EMERGENCY — go to hospital
C. diff Colitis
- Severe watery or bloody diarrhea — see a doctor
Blood Dyscrasias (Rare)
- Neutropenia, thrombocytopenia — with long-term use
When to See a Doctor (Kab Doctor Se Milna Zaroori Hai)
- Jaundice — yellowing of skin or eyes — see a doctor immediately, stop the medicine
- Dark urine + pale stools + itching (cholestasis)
- Severe rash, throat swelling, breathing difficulty (anaphylaxis — EMERGENCY)
- Severe watery or bloody diarrhea (C. diff)
- Infection not improving after 3–4 days
