Methotrexate Tablet Uses (Fayde / Kis kaam aata hai)
Methotrexate is a folate antagonist DMARD. All approved uses in Pakistan are listed below.
> DOSING CRITICAL WARNING: Methotrexate in RA/psoriasis is taken WEEKLY — NOT DAILY. Daily dosing can cause serious toxicity and death.
Primary Uses (Mukhya Istemal)
- Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) — first-line DMARD — slows joint inflammation and damage
- Psoriasis — moderate-severe — controls skin cell growth
- Psoriatic Arthritis — for both joints and skin
- Ectopic Pregnancy — only in specialist hospital setting
- Malignancies (Cancers) — high-dose, strictly oncologist only
Who Should Take It (Kin logon ke liye)
- Adults with RA diagnosed by a rheumatologist
- Patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis under dermatologist care
- Specifically prescribed patients — on a WEEKLY dose
When NOT to Use Methotrexate (Kab bilkul nahi lena)
- Pregnancy (Category X) — ABSOLUTELY CONTRAINDICATED
- Severe liver or kidney disease
- Bone marrow failure
- During live vaccines
- Without a doctor's prescription
Critical Pregnancy Warning
Methotrexate is a Category X teratogen — it causes serious harm to the foetus. Women: no conception for 3 months after stopping; Men: for 6 months after stopping.
