Mometasone Nasal Spray Side Effects (Nuksanat)
Mometasone Nasal Spray (Nasomet / Nasonex) is generally safe when taken at the correct dose and with correct technique. Due to very low systemic absorption (<0.1%), systemic corticosteroid effects are practically absent.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Epistaxis (nosebleed) — most common; mostly prevented with correct technique
- Nasal irritation / burning
- Throat irritation
- Headache
These side effects are usually mild. If they continue, inform your doctor.
To prevent nosebleed: Do not direct the spray toward the nasal septum — aim toward the outer wall. Gently blow your nose before use.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat)
- Nasal septal perforation — see ENT specialist immediately (whistling sound, crusting)
- HPA axis suppression — extremely rare at standard doses
- Glaucoma / cataracts — very rare (excessive prolonged use)
- Growth suppression in children — theoretical; use minimum effective dose
When to See a Doctor (Kab Doctor Se Milna Zaroori Hai)
- Persistent / severe nosebleed that does not stop
- Whistling sound from the nose
- Vision changes or eye pain
- No improvement after 4 weeks of regular use
