Rifafour Tablet Side Effects (Nuksanat)
Rifafour Tablet (rifampicin, isoniazid, pyrazinamide, ethambutol HCl) is effective against TB when taken correctly. However, it carries important safety risks that patients must know about.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Orange-red discolouration of urine and body fluids (normal — do not stop medicine)
- Nausea, loss of appetite, stomach upset
- Headache and dizziness
These side effects are usually manageable. Orange discolouration of urine, sweat, and tears is expected and normal. If nausea or headache persist, inform your doctor.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat)
- Hepatotoxicity (liver damage): jaundice, dark urine, severe abdominal pain — stop medicine and seek emergency care immediately
- Optic neuritis: blurred vision or colour vision changes — see a doctor immediately
- Peripheral neuropathy: tingling or numbness in hands or feet — see a doctor immediately
When to See a Doctor (Kab Doctor Se Milna Zaroori Hai)
- Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice) or dark urine — possible liver toxicity; stop medicine and seek emergency care
- Changes in vision or difficulty distinguishing colours — possible optic neuritis
- Tingling, numbness, or weakness in hands or feet — possible peripheral neuropathy
Warnings and Precautions (Ihtiyat)
- Do not use if allergic to any of the four active ingredients
- Liver function must be monitored before and during treatment
- Orange-red discolouration of body fluids is expected — do not stop the medicine for this reason
