Rigix Tablet Dosage (Kitni leni hai)
Rigix (Cetirizine 10mg) has one of the simplest dosing schedules of any allergy medicine — once daily, flexible timing, with or without food. Its 24-hour duration means one tablet provides all-day allergy protection.
Standard Adult Dosage
| Condition | Dose | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| Allergic rhinitis | 10mg once daily | Morning or evening |
| Chronic urticaria | 10mg once daily | Morning or evening |
| Allergic conjunctivitis | 10mg once daily | Any time |
| Acute symptoms (as needed) | 10mg single dose | When symptoms occur |
Maximum dose: 10mg per day — no additional benefit has been demonstrated at higher doses.
Children's Dosage (Bachon ke Liye Dose)
| Age Group | Dose | Formulation |
|---|---|---|
| Under 2 years | Not recommended | — |
| 2–5 years | 2.5mg twice daily | Syrup (1mg/ml) only |
| 6–12 years | 5mg once daily (half tablet) | Syrup or half tablet |
| 12 years and above | 10mg once daily | Tablet |
Under 6 years: The Rigix tablet is not appropriate — use Cetirizine syrup with weight-based dosing.
Timing Flexibility
| Preference | When to Take | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| General allergy control | Morning | Allergy protection throughout the day |
| Drowsiness occurs | Before bed | Drowsiness aids sleep |
| Chronic urticaria | Evening preferred | Histamine release peaks at night |
Key: Take at the same time each day — consistency builds steadier blood levels.
Special Populations (Khaas Mareezon ke Liye)
Kidney Disease (Gurdey ki Bimari)
Cetirizine is primarily excreted by the kidneys — dose must be reduced in renal impairment:
| eGFR (mL/min/1.73m²) | Dose |
|---|---|
| Above 50 | 10mg once daily (normal) |
| 30–50 | 5mg once daily |
| Below 30 | 5mg every other day (alternate days) |
| On dialysis | 5mg once weekly — under specialist guidance only |
Elderly Patients (60+ Years)
- Consider starting at 5mg if drowsiness is a concern
- Monitor for urinary retention, especially in men with an enlarged prostate (BPH)
- Reduce to 5mg if drowsiness interferes with daily function
Liver Disease
Cetirizine is primarily renally excreted (not hepatically metabolised). Dose adjustment is generally not required for mild-to-moderate liver disease.
Pregnancy
Generally considered low-risk, but doctor guidance is essential. Avoid in the first trimester if possible.
Food Interaction
No significant food interaction — Rigix can be taken with or without meals. Alcohol must be avoided — it significantly increases sedation.
Missed Dose (Dose Bhool Jayein)
- Take as soon as you remember
- If your next dose is just a few hours away — skip the missed dose and resume normal dosing the next day
- Never double the dose
Overdose
Cetirizine overdose symptoms:
- Extreme drowsiness
- Restlessness or agitation (paradoxical — especially in children)
- Rapid heartbeat
Seek emergency care immediately if an overdose is taken — particularly in children.
