Symptom

Asthma

Also called: damma · saans ki bimari · asthma attack

Asthma causes wheeze, cough, and breathlessness. Modern treatment is inhaler-based: a preventer (steroid) inhaler taken daily, plus a reliever (Ventolin / Asthalin) for symptoms. Pakistan's smog season makes proactive winter preparation essential.

When to see a doctor — red flags

  • Severe breathlessness, unable to speak in full sentences
  • Reliever (Ventolin) needed more than every 4 hours
  • Lips or fingertips turning blue
  • Drowsiness or confusion with breathing difficulty
  • Peak flow below 50% of personal best
  • Asthma worsening during pregnancy
