Primary Uses (Mukhya Istemal)
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus — post-meal blood sugar control (post-prandial hyperglycaemia)
- Impaired Glucose Tolerance / Pre-diabetes (preventing progression)
- Combination therapy: add-on with metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin
KEY LIMITATION to Understand
Acarbose ONLY works on post-prandial sugar. It has no effect on fasting glucose. This is why it is mostly used in combination — it is not a first-line monotherapy.
Who Should Take It (Kin logon ke liye)
- Type 2 diabetes patients whose blood sugar rises significantly after meals
- Pre-diabetes patients alongside lifestyle changes
When NOT to Use (Kab nahi leni chahiye)
- Bowel disease (IBD, chronic intestinal issues)
