Finasteride Uses (Fayde / Kis kaam aata hai)
Finasteride (brand: Propecia) is a prescription medicine in Pakistan belonging to the 5-alpha Reductase Inhibitor class. All approved uses are listed below.
Primary Uses (Mukhya Istemal)
1. Male Androgenetic Alopecia — Baal Girna (Ganjapan) — 1mg
Finasteride 1mg is approved for androgenetic alopecia in men. DHT (dihydrotestosterone) damages hair follicles — finasteride reduces hair loss by lowering DHT levels.
- For men only — strictly forbidden for women
- Effects take 3–6 months to become visible
- Hair loss may resume if the medicine is stopped
2. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) — Prostate Ka Barhna — 5mg
Finasteride 5mg is prescribed for prostate enlargement (BPH). It reduces the size of the prostate gland, relieving urinary difficulty and the need to wake up at night to urinate.
Who Should Take It (Kin logon ke liye)
- Adult men diagnosed with androgenetic alopecia by a doctor
- Men with BPH (prostate enlargement)
When NOT to Use Finasteride (Kab nahi leni chahiye)
- Women — pregnant or of childbearing age: Teratogenic risk — do not handle crushed/broken tablets
- Children — Finasteride is absolutely not for children
- Allergy to Finasteride
- Severe liver disease
Important Safety Warning (Zaroori Khabardar)
Pregnant women must NEVER handle crushed or broken finasteride tablets. The active ingredient can be absorbed through skin and cause malformation of male fetal genitalia. Intact tablets with film coating are safe to handle briefly, but avoid prolonged contact. If accidental skin contact occurs, wash immediately with soap and water.
Summary
Finasteride should only be taken by male patients, on a doctor's prescription, for hair loss (1mg) or BPH (5mg). Strictly forbidden for women and children.
