Maltofer Syrup Side Effects (Nuksanat)
Maltofer Syrup (Iron III Hydroxide Polymaltose Complex) is generally better tolerated than conventional ionic iron supplements. However, like all iron products, mild gastrointestinal effects are possible.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Dark-coloured or black stools (harmless discolouration from iron — not blood)
- Nausea or mild stomach discomfort
- Constipation or diarrhoea
These side effects are usually mild. Dark stools are a normal and expected consequence of iron therapy. If they continue to bother you, take the syrup with food.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat)
- Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing) — see a doctor immediately
- Signs of iron overload (joint pain, extreme fatigue) — see a doctor immediately
- Severe abdominal cramps or persistent vomiting — see a doctor immediately
When to See a Doctor (Kab Doctor Se Milna Zaroori Hai)
- Signs of allergic reaction: rash, swelling, difficulty breathing
- No improvement in symptoms after 4 weeks of consistent iron therapy
- Severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting
- Extreme fatigue, joint pain (may indicate iron overload with prolonged excessive use)
Warnings and Precautions (Ihtiyat)
- Don't use Maltofer Syrup if you have haemochromatosis or iron overload conditions
- Keep out of reach of children — iron overdose is serious in young children
- Dark stools are expected and harmless during iron therapy
