Permethrin Cream Side Effects (Nuksanat)
Permethrin Cream 5% (Scabfree / Lyclear) is generally well tolerated when applied correctly. However, like all medicines, it can cause side effects in some patients.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Temporary burning or stinging at application site
- Itching at application site
- Skin redness and mild irritation
Important: Itching for 2–4 weeks after treatment is normal — it is skin inflammation due to dead mites, not treatment failure. If itching persists beyond 4 weeks, see a doctor.
These side effects are generally mild and resolve on their own. If they persist, inform your doctor.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat)
- Severe allergic reaction — rare; see a doctor immediately
- Neurotoxicity — rare; mainly in premature infants or with extensive skin damage; see a doctor immediately
When to See a Doctor (Kab Doctor Se Milna Zaroori Hai)
- Severe rash, hives, or swelling after application — possible allergic reaction
- Difficulty breathing or throat swelling — anaphylaxis emergency; call an ambulance
- Cream accidentally in eyes or mouth — rinse immediately with water and see a doctor
- No improvement after 2 applications — possible resistance or misdiagnosis
- Signs of secondary bacterial infection: pus, increasing pain, fever
Warnings and Precautions (Ihtiyat)
- Do not use at all if allergic to Permethrin, Pyrethrin, or chrysanthemum
- Contraindicated in premature infants
- Do not interpret post-treatment itching as treatment failure — wait 2–4 weeks
