Colchicine Tablet Dosage (Kitni leni hai)
Colchicine has a narrow therapeutic index — the difference between the effective dose and the toxic dose is very small. Always follow your doctor's prescription exactly.
Adult Dose (Baalgon ke liye)
Acute Gout Flares
- Low-dose regime (BNF guidance): 1mg at first sign of attack, then 0.5mg after 1 hour
- Total per episode: As prescribed — never exceed maximum
- Early treatment (first 12-24 hours) is most effective
Gout Prophylaxis
- Typically 0.5mg once or twice daily (as prescribed)
- Duration: 3-6 months when starting urate-lowering therapy
Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF)
- Typically 1-2mg daily in divided doses (as prescribed by specialist)
- Usually lifelong therapy
CRITICAL: NEVER exceed the maximum prescribed dose — narrow therapeutic index
Child Dose (Bachon ke liye)
For FMF in children, specialist weight-based dosing is required — consult a paediatric specialist. Do not give colchicine to children on your own.
How to Take (Kaise leni hai)
- Take with water
- Take with food or after meals
- AVOID grapefruit juice
Missed Dose (Dose chhoot jaye to kya karein)
Take it as soon as you remember. If the next dose is close, skip the missed dose. Never take a double dose.
Overdose (Zyada Dose — EMERGENCY)
Profuse diarrhea + persistent vomiting = early signs of toxicity. GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM IMMEDIATELY. There is no antidote — seek help as quickly as possible.
