Colchicine Tablet Side Effects (Nuksanat)
Colchicine has a narrow therapeutic index — even small doses above the therapeutic range can cause serious harm. Understanding side effects and overdose signs is critical.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Diarrhea (most common — dose-dependent, often dose-limiting)
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain and cramping
- Muscle weakness (with prolonged use)
Taking it with food may reduce GI side effects. Mild diarrhea is manageable — but profuse diarrhea may be a sign of toxicity.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat)
- Myelosuppression — unusual bruising, bleeding, infections (prolonged use / overdose) — URGENT DOCTOR
- Neuromuscular toxicity — severe muscle weakness, myopathy — URGENT DOCTOR
- Rhabdomyolysis (especially with statins) — URGENT DOCTOR
- Multi-organ failure (overdose) — EMERGENCY

Colchicine overdose is potentially fatal. Early signs: profuse diarrhea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain. Later signs: muscle damage, multi-organ failure. No antidote is available — GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM IMMEDIATELY.
