Osnate-D Dosage (Kitni leni hai)
The most important concept in Osnate-D dosing is split dosing. The body can only absorb around 500mg of calcium efficiently at one time — so taking all 4 tablets at once would waste much of the calcium. Splitting the dose across two meals maximises absorption.
Standard Adult Dosage
| Time | Dose | With |
|---|---|---|
| Breakfast | 2 tablets | Food — required |
| Dinner | 2 tablets | Food — required |
| Daily total | 4 tablets | ~712mg Ca + 1600 IU Vit D3 |
What Two Tablets (One Dose) Provides
- Elemental Calcium: ~356mg
- Phosphorus: In natural proportion from Ossein Mineral Complex
- Vitamin D3: 800 IU
- Bone matrix proteins: Collagen, osteocalcin (from Ossein Mineral Complex)
Why Split Dosing Works Better
| Single dose of 4 tablets | Split dose (2 + 2) |
|---|---|
| ~712mg calcium at once | ~356mg per dose |
| ~50% absorbed = ~356mg | ~60–70% absorbed = ~480–500mg |
| Less efficient absorption | More total calcium absorbed |
Always split the dose if taking 4 or more tablets daily.
Critical Timing Rules (Bohat Zaroori Timing)
With Bisphosphonates (Osteoporosis Treatment)
| Time | Action |
|---|---|
| On waking (empty stomach) | Take alendronate or risedronate with a full glass of plain water |
| Stay upright for 30–60 minutes | Standing or sitting — do not lie down |
| Breakfast time | Take 2 Osnate-D tablets with food |
| Dinner time | Take 2 Osnate-D tablets with food |
Critical: Never take bisphosphonate and Osnate-D at the same time — calcium completely blocks bisphosphonate absorption.
With Antibiotics
| Antibiotic | Required Gap |
|---|---|
| Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin | 2 hours before OR 4–6 hours after Osnate-D |
| Doxycycline, Tetracycline | 2 hours before OR 4 hours after Osnate-D |
| Most other antibiotics | No special timing required |
With Iron Supplements
Take iron 2 hours before or 2 hours after Osnate-D — calcium and iron compete for the same absorption pathway.
Special Populations (Khaas Mareezon ke Liye)
Post-Menopausal Women
Standard 4 tablets/day (2 + 2) is recommended, with dietary calcium targeting a total daily intake of 1200mg.
Patients on Long-Term Corticosteroids
Clinical guidelines recommend 1000–1500mg of calcium daily plus at least 800 IU Vitamin D3 for steroid-induced osteoporosis prevention. Four Osnate-D tablets provide 1600 IU Vitamin D3 and 712mg calcium — combined with dietary sources this meets the target.
Elderly Patients (70+ Years)
Standard 4 tablets/day. Vitamin D3 requirements in the elderly may be higher (800–2000 IU depending on blood levels). If 1600 IU is insufficient, your doctor may prescribe an additional higher-dose Vitamin D supplement.
Kidney Disease
| Severity | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Mild (eGFR above 60) | Normal dosing |
| Moderate (eGFR 30–60) | Use with caution — monitor serum calcium |
| Severe (eGFR below 30) | Specialist guidance required |
| Dialysis | Specialist-only — requires activated Vitamin D and specialist-directed calcium management |
Pregnancy and Lactation
Typically 1–2 tablets daily as prescribed by your doctor. Total calcium target from all sources is 1000–1200mg/day. Do not self-prescribe — excess calcium during pregnancy can also be harmful.
Food Interaction
- Always take with food — calcium absorption is significantly better with meals
- Dairy foods can be eaten at the same time — no conflict
- Avoid taking simultaneously with high-oxalate foods (spinach, beets) at the same meal — oxalate binds calcium. Eating these foods at different times is fine.
Missed Dose (Dose Bhool Jayein)
- Take as soon as you remember — only if you are eating or have just eaten
- Do not take on an empty stomach
- If your next dose is nearly due, skip the missed one
- Never double the dose
