Propranolol (Inderal) Side Effects (Nuksanat)
Propranolol (Inderal) is generally effective for heart and blood pressure conditions but carries important warnings. Asthma patients must NOT use it.
Common Side Effects (Aam Nuksanat)
- Bradycardia (slow heartbeat)
- Cold extremities — cold hands and feet (peripheral vasoconstriction)
- Fatigue and tiredness
- Sleep disturbances / nightmares
- Sexual dysfunction
- Nausea
These side effects are generally mild. If they continue or are bothersome, inform your doctor.
Serious Side Effects (Sanjeedah Nuksanat)
- Bronchospasm — emergency immediately
- Severe bradycardia / heart block — see a doctor immediately
- Heart failure exacerbation — see a doctor immediately
- Rebound hypertension / MI on abrupt withdrawal — NEVER stop without tapering
- Hypoglycaemia masking in diabetics — regular glucose monitoring required
When to See a Doctor (Kab Doctor Se Milna Zaroori Hai)
- Shortness of breath or wheeze (bronchospasm — emergency)
- Pulse < 50 bpm or irregular heartbeat
- Severe dizziness or loss of consciousness
- Chest pain if dose was missed or suddenly stopped
- Severe cold or blue discolouration in hands and feet
- Diabetics: unusual symptoms of low blood sugar
Warnings and Precautions (Ihtiyat)
- CONTRAINDICATED in asthma and significant COPD
- NEVER stop abruptly — always taper over 2 weeks under doctor supervision
- Diabetics: close glucose monitoring required
